Safety Matters

While Tow-EZ is not a safety device, it will reduce the likelihood of sparks caused by dragging chains and will retain the integrity of your trailer's safety chain strength.

STOP TWISTING YOUR CHAINS

Chains that are twisted are significantly weaker than chains that maintain a straight pull on the links. Deliberate, severe twisting to shorten your trailer safety chains can result in a 70% loss of chain strength. Geek out on this article: The Low-Down on Twisting Safety Chains.

SPARKS ARE GONNA FLY

AAA warns that dragging chains can spark fires.

The Minnesota Superior Forest Service asks readers to:

  • Check for dragging chains before hauling campers or trailers. Dragging safety chains down the road can quickly become hot and make sparks, causing grass fires.

According to the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, dragging chains is one of the main causes of fires along highways.

The Arizona Department of Transportation also warns travelers:

  • When pulling a trailer, attach safety chains securely; loose chains can drag on the pavement and cause sparks, igniting roadside fires
